Today we are celebrating the inspiring efforts of our colleague Helen who works in the office here at Yates Engineering. Supported by her partner Damian, Helen took on the Race for Life at Clumber Park on Sunday, to raise vital funds for Cancer Research in memory of her late husband, who sadly lost his battle with skin cancer three years ago! Despite the sweltering temperatures on race day, they not only raised nearly £300 for a cause close to Helen’s heart but she also achieved a personal best – completing a 5K in 30 minutes, a time & distance she never expected to achieve on her return to running after many years.
Having not run since her school cross country days aged 14, Helen took on Couch to 5k last September, as a way of finding positivity and focus following her loss. She has shown unwavering determination, training consistently with hill runs, increasingly longer distances and weekly parkrun, whilst navigating an injury or two earlier in the year. Her strength and perseverance is admirable and we were proud to support her with her challenge and fundraising in the fight against cancer
