David Yates of Yates Engineering and his team have officially begun their coast-to-coast charity tractor challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK
After arriving in Ravenglass yesterday, the team set off at around 9am this morning on the first leg of their five day journey across the country. Before departing, the four vintage tractors were photographed on the beach at Ravenglass under beautiful blue sky, marking the start of another memorable fundraising adventure.
David is joined by Steve Tooley, Stewart Marshall and Ben Craig as they travel from the West Coast at Ravenglass to Robin Hood’s Bay on the East Coast. The challenge will see the team cover the route over five days, with planned overnight stops in Ambleside and Leyburn before reaching their destination on Friday.
Adding to the challenge, three of the four vintage tractors have no cabs, leaving the drivers exposed to whatever weather conditions the week may bring.
The tractors will be familiar to many followers of David and Steve’s previous fundraising efforts, having been used in their remarkable 2008 charity journey from Land’s End to John O’ Groats, a challenge that took two weeks to complete.
We are following the team’s progress and wish them well as they embark on this latest adventure in support of Cancer Research UK.

We will bring further updates from their journey as they make their way across the country.
